AGH Recognizes National CPR & AED Week by Offering Free CPR Training

5/20/2016

In honor of National CPR and AED Awareness Week (June 1-7), Allegan General Hospital (AGH) is partnering with the American Heart Association (AHA) to provide the community CPR Anytime Personal Learning program at no cost. During this free 45 minute course, individuals will learn the core skills of hands-only CPR and receive a free kit to take home with them, which includes an inflatable Mini Anne CPR manikin, DVD and a skills reminder card. The CPR Anytime kits were generously donated to the Hospital from an endowment through the American Heart Association.

Seven sessions will be offered from 7:00 a.m. – 7:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. on June 7, June 8 and June 9. A session will also be offered at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 11. All sessions are 45 minutes long and will be held at Allegan General Hospital in the Michigan Room.

“We are very excited to be partnering with the American Heart Association,” said Jennifer Hamman, AHA Training Center manager at Allegan General Hospital. “Our goal is to train as many families in our community as possible. You never know when this will happen to someone you love and you will want to be ready. I am honored the Allegan General Hospital Training Center has been asked to distribute these kits and encourage you to bring your whole family. I am always looking for something meaningful for my family to do together and I can’t think of anything with more meaning than learning how to save a life.”

According to the American Heart Association, 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in homes. Unfortunately, only about 46% of people who experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest get the immediate help that they need before professional help arrives. Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest at home, at work or in public. It can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.

Individuals interested in signing up for a free CPR Anytime class should call AGH’s Community Events Line at (269) 686-4231 or email jenniferhamman@aghosp.com.

AGH is pleased to support the AHA and its important mission to increase survival from cardiac arrest. As an American Heart Association Authorized Training Center, AGH is dedicated to bringing CPR and other first aid training courses to the community.
