Wings Home selected as 2016 Annual Chamber Charity

Wings_reducedWings Home is a charitable 4-bedroom residential home for terminally ill individuals who need a place to live in comfort for the last phase of their life. This comfortable home located in Allegan was founded in 2008, incorporated in 2009 and hosted its first guest in 2010. The goal of the Wings Home is to provide 24-hour a day care for hospice patients in a comfortable home for the last few weeks of life all with no charge to the patients or families. Volunteers are recruited and trained to care for patients in five-hour shifts throughout the day. The nine-hour overnight shift is covered by paid staff members as well as some weekends and occasional days if a volunteer is not available. No insurance or government funds are used. Theresa Lynn, Director of Wings Home stated, “We are so pleased to be selected as the Charity of Choice this year!” Wings Home serves individuals from Allegan and Van Buren Counties and the surrounding communities.  Volunteer recruitment is ongoing. The chamber is honored to annually select one charity to raise money for at various events throughout the year including, but not limited to, the Annual Chamber Business Expo and the Annual Chamber Golf Outing. In order to be selected as the charity recipient, interested organizations must complete an application process that includes describing their mission, goals, and objectives. The Chamber Board of Directors reviews the applications and takes a vote to determine which charity to adopt.
